Recording sightings

Sending us records
The easiest way to submit records of Banded Demoiselle you have spotted is to do so using our online recording form.

Your records will be divided into two categories: verified and unverified (both types of record are equally welcome and useful).

A verified record is one where the identification of the Banded Demoiselle has been checked by a BDS officer. To do this we have to see a photograph of the damselfly itself.

Digital photographs can be submitted by email to help us verify records in areas near the limits of, or outside, the currently mapped distribution (including Scotland ).

You will be given an email address and reference number when you have submitted a record online. The reference number will be specific to that record.

The important details of your Banded Demoiselle sightings (records) that we need to see include:
  • Your name and address (if we need to get back to you)
  • What you found (adult male or mating pair)
  • Where you found it - a grid reference and site name would be ideal
  • When you found it - date
  • How many: 1, 2-5, 6-20, 21-100, or more than 100
  • What type of habitat or water-body they were in (e.g. river, stream, canal, etc)
