Fly for Id

Hey everyone,

I found this fly at work a few weeks ago and can't run it through the key as I only have a picture of it, I didn't have any pots to hand which is usual when I see something interesting. I think it could be Asilidae? The picture doesn't show it but it had red flanks to its abdomen. Can anyone help?

Cheers,

Ro

Looks like a Dioctria to me

Looks like a Dioctria to me which is indeed an asilid.

Thanks Graeme,

Thanks Graeme,

Looks like Dioctria rufipes seems to fit with leg colour and red sides to the abdomen.

Dioctria

Certainly Dioctria, but I'm struggling to make up my mind between rufipes and linearis (and the rarer cothurnata is fairly similar as well). Doyou have a view from the side?

Hi Martin,

Hi Martin,

Sorry I've taken forever to reply. I didn't manage to get another decent picture from the side, the camera on my phone isn't all that good at macro pics.
