Cladonia gracilis

Cladonia gracilis. An upright species often with a star shaped cup at the tip. This photograph shows it being especially fertile with the cups holding fat apothecia.. The apothecia are usually brown, but may be greenish as in this photo taken at Culbin Sands in Morayshire, Scotland. It is a relatively common species, often growing in open heathland habitats or on shingle close to the sea.
