Cladonia humilis

Cladonia humilis. Very like Cladonia chlorophaea, but with a shorter stalk to the podetia. It can be confirmed by the K+ yellow reaction which is unique amongst British Cladonia species. This photograph was taken on heavy metal enriched soil in the grounds of the South Crofty Mine, in Redruth, Cornwall. It is a relatively common species in short turf where competition is limited.
