The online survey has been a fantastic success!! Thank you very much to all the participants who sent in their records; the online recording facility of this website is now closed and the British Dragonfly Society is adding the confirmed records to its national database.

National Insect Week 2006 gives you the opportunity to help the British Dragonfly Society record one of the UK's most striking damselflies: the Banded Demoiselle (Latin name: Calopteryx splendens). |
The British Dragonfly Society (BDS) is receiving less and less records of dragonflies and damselflies. The map below, on the left, shows all British records of the Banded Demoiselle received to date (by the BDS sub-group dealing with records: the ?Dragonfly Recording Network').
By contrast, the map on the right shows records received from the year 2000 onwards, with a very significant drop in the number of data received.
We suspect that this is due to fewer people sending their records in, rather than a decline in species numbers, but to be sure we enlisted your help! We have had a great response to recording the Banded Damoiselle and we will be reporting our findings on this website very soon. In the meantime you can still use this website to find out more about this fascinating species!
