Missing species?

Has anyone come across any missing species on the app? I've just tried to enter Common Nettle-tap, and it can't find "Common Nettle-tap", "Nettle-tap", "Nettle Tap", "Common Nettle Tap", "Anthophila fabriciana", "Anthophila" or "frabriciana"...

The scientific name is happily listed on the NBN Gateway and "Anthophila fabriciana" finds the species on the "Enter a casual record" page without problems for me.

I can't find Small Magpie

I can't find Small Magpie moth either under its common name or Anania hortulata, or Eurrhypara hortulata.  Are all the NBN preferred names loaded in to the app?

karolis
Hi Steve. Yes, you are right.

Hi Steve. Yes, you are right. Actually, it looks like the iRecord website itself uses an old taxa (Eurrhypara hortulata) as UKSI says the preferred name is Anania hortulata - link

Therefore, none of them are in the app, that is, since the warehouse is loaded with old taxon the irecord app Anania hortulata cannot be matched againsed any in the database.

I will look into this. Thanks.

Thanks Amanda,

I am slowly working on it amongst other things. It will take another couple of weeks to fix the remaining bugs for the next release and then another week to pass the apple store review, so I would say a month.

Species List Update on iRecord App.

Hi Karolis,

I was really pleased to see the iRecord species list has been updated to include recent updates to Index Fungorum...amongst other updates. I presume this will have to wait for the next app update to be reflected in the App? In the meantime I can just add as a genus level record and update on the website...although this has resulted in an error when I attempted it for Amanita coryli today.

Cheers,

Dave

Thanks a lot, I will do my best to add them in. You can also specify your missing species here at our issue tracker, which would be then easier for me to track all the species list problems.

Just wondered if there's an app update coming out soon which will fix all the species list problems?  It seems to have lots of common names missing - took me ages to work out that Grey Partidge was actually either 'English Partidge' or 'Common Partridge' on the app - neither of which are in common usage these days!

karolis
Hi, I am working on the

Hi, I am working on the update at the moment and it is hard to say when the app will be fully tested and stable enough to be released. There are a lot of improvements we are pushing into the new version. My gut feeling is that it should be sometime this June.

Good to know - thanks.  As I've said before, the app is excellent and exactly what I'm after for recording wildlife in the field.  Any improvements that come along are most definitely welcomed.  Keep up the fantastic work!

Missing Species from phone App

I can't seem to find Large Skipper or Peacock butterflies in the phone app.  I have resorted to entering them as another species (say Dingy Skipper for Large) to record the location then changing it when I upload.

karolis
Hi Paul, what is the app

Hi Paul, what is the app version you are using? (Menu->About (bottom of the page)). I am asking this because we are now testing a new version of the app that should be released in the next week or so.

karolis
Hi Anna

Hi Anna

The app and the website use species dictionary that is based on the Natural History Museum's species list. Hardy Banana is missing from the UK list so it is best to contact them if you wanted new species added: https://www.nhm.ac.uk/our-science/data/uk-species.html

Cheers
