App dumping records

I think there is an unfortunate bug in the iOS version of the new iRecord app. I've just gone to upload my weekends records and it appears the app has logged me out and dumped all my stored records. Rather frustrating. It has logged me out a few times without warning and I suspected I've lost some records previously but this time has confirmed it.

Edit: I've just updated my iOS and I also noticed there is an app update too, so did that.  Let's see if that's fixed the issue.

Hi Steve, I am sorry to hear

Hi Steve, I am sorry to hear that, the app should not log you out and definitely not delete your records. Let me know if and how this happens again.

Thanks,

Karolis

It's happened again today,

It's happened again today, but I can't really tell you how I'm afraid. I added some records at lunchtime and by the time I've checked this evening they've gone and I've been logged out.

There is also an annoying bug around locking the date and it defaulting to 1970! But I've just tried to replicate it and can't currently.

Hi,

Hi,

Thanks for reporting. Could you tell me your Device, what Operating System you are using and its version. Also, if you have enough space on your device.

You can try reinstalling the app or Resetting (App Settings), possibly this could help.

I will try replicating and fixing the problem.

iPhone 6

iPhone 6

iOS 9.3.2

app version 1.1.0 (1)

Currently 427 MB available

As I said previously I had an earlier version of my iOS and app installed and this was when I first noticed the issue.  I have since updated my iOS and installed the latest version of the app and it still happened.  I will try resetting the app and see if that fixes it.

As a side issue - the locking of the date also doesn't seem to work on my device.  If I lock the date to one before today (for instance if I'm adding moth records from the nights trapping) any further records default to 1/1/1970 rather than the locked date!

Thank you - I really like the app, even with the bugs!

Haha, that is always nice to

Haha, that is always nice to know people like the app. I am glad you are using it!

I will be looking into those problems, thanks.

Unfortunately I'm going to

Unfortunately I'm going to have to stop using the app - its dumped my records from this morning again.  Very frustrating to say the least!  I've now got to try and remember all the moths I had in my trap this morning...please fix this!

Hi Steve,

Hi Steve,

Oh no! I think you are not alone, this must be related to this issue:

https://github.com/NERC-CEH/irecord-app/issues/42

I can see from my database error logs that some records could not be saved on the phone because they were somehow corrupted. Now why this has happened is tricky to find out without knowing exactly how they were created and then modified. Like what attributes were recorded, how many photos were attached, was location GPS or selected through the map, was it set for submission, how long was the app opened, what pages were navigated, how many records created, any attributes locked etc. anythink of this kind would help.

To be on a safer side, I would try fully closing and reopening the app (so that you see the splashscreen again) after every few records you have entered.  It would get quite annoying very soon I am sure, but this way you would at least not lose so many records at a time and also know better of the steps to reproduce the problem.

Sorry again, I will do my best to find the bug.

Thanks,

Karolis

Thanks for trying to help,

Thanks for trying to help, Karolis. I desperately want to love the app but finding it frustrating at the mo.  Once the bugs are fixed though, it will be ace.  Already the app has made me record far more than I ever have without it.

I'll try and answer your questions as best I can...

what attributes were recorded:

Usually species name, location, number, date, stage, and occasionally a photo or two.

how many photos were attached:

Sometimes none, one or up to three.  All come from the gallery option.

was location GPS or selected through the map:

Usually off the map but sometimes using GPS

was it set for submission

None were submitted

how long was the app opened

A couple of hours in the background I guess. I decided not to swipe it away in case this lost the records again!

what pages were navigated:

Just the add record option

how many records created:

Perhaps 30?

any attributes locked:

Only location and stage (Unfortunately everytime I lock the date it defaults to 01/01/1970 - so less useful!)

Ps the space available on my iPhone 6 is also rather low - it was around 500MB when the dump last happened.  I wonder if this has anything to do with it?

Thanks Steve, this info helps

Thanks Steve, this info helps to narrow the scope down a bit. I will look into the issue shortly.
