Dynamic map layers

We've made some changes recently to the mapping in iRecord to reduce our dependency on Google mapping layers. There is now a default dynamic layer consisting of OS Leisure which changes to Google Satellite when zoomed right in and OpenStreetMap when zoomed right out. You'll see this layer in a number of places, e.g. the Enter Casual Records and Enter List of Records.

I wondered what was going on

I wondered what was going on the last few days.  I have to say so far I have found this very slow to load and very glitchy, quite often I just get nothing displayed at all in the map box.  By default the map is zoomed in at the start, I would much rather it stayed with satellite or at least with one constant mapping style throughout.

hi Matt,  as iRecord has

hi Matt,  as iRecord has become more widely used and Google have changed their charging model for access to satellite maps, we are starting to incur considerable extra costs which diverts funds from other improvements we want to make.  However, we still value a satellite view when viewing/entering records at fine spatial scales - hence why we've developed a system that is dynamic to the level of zoom within maps.  We will look into the issues you have found - were your comments specifically concerning the verification system?

thanks, David

Map gone mad

I've given up this evening. I cannot enter data because I cannot enter a map location. Whether I enter a pre-saved location or put the map ref in manually, it is coming up 30 odd miles away and will not pan or re-size properly, going blank or flipping back.

Mapping problem

Hi John,

I'm sorry you're experiencing problems with iRecord. So that I can reproduce the problem, can you give me the following information:

1. a grid reference for which this happens

2. the name of the map layer selected in the map layers list

3. the input form where this is happening (e.g. the 'enter a casual record' form)

4. a very brief summary of your workflow (just the main steps up to the point of error)

Many thanks,

Rich

Mapping problem

Hi John,

Yesterday we fixed a problem which was evident when switching between OS Leisure and other layers. Some of the symptoms of that problem matched those you described - it's possibe that may have fixed it. If not, let us know with the information requested above.

mapping problem

Hello,

There still seems to be a problem with the enter a casual record function.  both in internet explorer and crome.  when zooming in on the map in the new dynamic layer it suddnly moves off the north coast of scotland to around HR6770.    I think it is when it swaps from open street map to the OS layer.    If I start in the OS leisure layer and zoom in it seems to swap the the dynamic layer at the last moment for satilite view, this works fine although the satelite view can take a little while to load.

all the best

Pat

Mapping problem

Hello Pat,

Can you check to see if you are still getting that problem with the dynamic layer in Scotland? We did some changes yesterday which I am hoping fixed it.
