Carriage returns in comments

The iRecord Butterflies App appears to allow carriage returns to be entered into comments resulting in downstream issues with plain text files. e.g. see record number 20629420.

The full-screen entry form

The full-screen entry form has always allowed carriage returns, so presumably all plain text downloads of this data must somehow handle the problem.  How do you manage people who submit butterfly records without usin the App?

I haven't seen carriage

I haven't seen carriage returns from any source other than the App, yet...

Now that I know to expect them I can look for them and replace them with spaces and/or other characters that won't then corrupt plain text data. But any system that can generate digital records that may be distributed via CSV or tab-separated text files really shouldn't be allowing carriage-returns to be inserted at source.

Excel

Excel has always allowed carriage returns. String are enclosed in quotes, or tabs for TSV, to  allow free text.

My iRecord comments are almost always multi-line as I want to separate out habitat and specimen comments.
