Solanum nigrum subsp. schultesii
An annual which occurs on cultivated land, around docks, on rubbish tips and on waste ground. Populations may be casual, but are often naturalised. Lowland.
S. nigrum subsp. schultesii was not recognised in Britain until 1980, but the first herbarium record dates back to 1946 (S. Essex). It is almost certainly under-recorded. Trends in its distribution are therefore difficult to assess.
Subsp. schultesii has a more southerly distribution than subsp. nigrum in Europe and is widespread in warm-temperate regions elsewhere.
