Cladonia stygia

Cladonia stygia. This is a lichen that resembles are rather dirty coloured version of Cladonia ciliata. It is rare occurring in a few upland, wet bogs in Wales and Scotland. It can be recognised by the black lower parts held in wet bog, which are covered with scattered white spots. This photograph was taken in the Hawke Hils inĀ  Newfoundland.
