Cladonia sulphurina

Cladonia sulphurina. Unfortunately this is the only photograph I have of it. It is a robust species sometimes as much as five centimetres tall. It has yellowish green podetia which usually have a rather contorted shape. It is a characteristic species of upland heathland and moorland occurring on peaty soil. If present, apothecia are red as are the pycnidia, but these are infrequent. This photograph was taken south of Spital of Boleskine in Inverness-shire.
