teloschistes chrysophthalmus

Teloschistes chrysophthalmus. A particularly fine example photographed on a hawthorn bush blasted by winds off the sea on the Down above Rottingdean to the east of Brighton. It can be confused with robust examples of Xanthoria polycarpa, but this would never have apothecia fringed with fibrils or "lashes". The black fruited species with it is Amandinea punctata
