Common in Britain and Ireland.

Summary: summer/autumn – mainly on branches of deciduous trees/bushes though occasionally on conifers/evergreen branches. Winter/spring – found in leaf litter.

Associations:

  • Deciduous branches: alder, ash, beech, birch, blackthorn, elder, elm, guelder rose, hawthorn, hazel, horse chestnut, lime, oak, poplar, rowan, sallow, spindle, sycamore, sea buckthorn and willow.
  • Deciduous trunks: oak.
  • Conifer/evergreen branches: Berberis, box, broom, cypress family, holly, ivy, laurel, pine, Rhododendron and yew.
  • Other microhabitats: fat hen, log pile, oak chandelle, reed bed, leaf litter and walls.

Sampling techniques: beating branches, brushing tree trunks, sweep netting, vacuum sampling and water trap.
