Peripsocus subfasciatus

Species account
Peripsocus subfasciatus Medium sized (c. 3-4mm) ‘picture-winged’ brown barkfly. Common throughout Britain.
Peripsocus subfasciatus No areola postica.  Forewing has prominent dark spot and apical cells almost uniformly pale brown.
Peripsocus subfasciatus A rare aberrant form has pale areas in the middle of the apical cells which makes it look superficially like P. alboguttatus.

Subgenital plate (underside of abdomen) has characteristic shape with sides of the apical lobe dark.
Compare with similar species

No males have been found in Europe.
