Epicaecilius pilipennis
A small (c2-3mm) dark barkfly. Uncommon in Britain and Ireland. Both brachypterous (short-winged) and macropterous (long-winged) forms are found.
Epicaecilius pilipennis Macropterous specimens have dark wings (see also Valenzuela piceus). The wing usually has four main distinct colourless patches.
Epicaecilius pilipennis Epicaecilius pilipennis All forms of the species can readily be distinguished from V. piceus and other species by the two light patches on the vertex.
