Species account
Elipsocus moebiusi A medium sized (c.3.5-4mm) barkfly. Uncommon in Britain and Ireland.
Elipsocus moebiusi The abdomen (both female and male) is predominantly brown without pale apex or base. The abdomen colour is the only character that can be used to identify male Elipsocus species.
Elipsocus moebiusi Female
The dark patches in the basal half of the forewing are characteristic of the females of all British Elipsocus species. This species is distinguished by having a poorly defined patch over the areola postica cell (compared to E. pumilis) and extensive clouding of the wings.
Elipsocus moebiusi Female
Pale crescents present on the head.
Elipsocus moebiusi Elipsocus moebiusi Female
The dark markings on the epiproct (end of abdomen) are somewhat variable but are more distinct than E. abdominalis and lack the broad colourless gap of E. pumilis.
Compare with similar species
Elipsocus moebiusi Male
The wing is largely colourless and lacks any distinguishing features from other Elipsocus species.
