The National Biodiversity Network (NBN) idea could not be simpler: capture wildlife data once in a standard electronic form; integrate data from different sources; and use the internet to enable data to be used many times in different ways by as many people as possible.
Butterflies are in trouble. A third of UK species are threatened and three-quarters are in decline. Butterfly recording is the foundation for protecting these beautiful creatures. The iRecord Butterflies app helps you to identify the butterflies that you see, but also uses your sightings to help save butterflies.
The app enables people to contribute more easily to the UK Ladybird Survey whose results have already shown declines in native species such as the 2-spot ladybird in response to the arrival of the harlequin ladybird, first recorded in England in 2003.
The long awaited new Atlas of Dragonflies in Britain and Ireland was published on 28th May 2014. This full colour, hardback book (280 pages) from the British Dragonfly Society maps the distribution of all 56 species of damselfly and dragonfly in Britain and Ireland. It represents five years' work by volunteers and partner organisations and summarises the distribution of over a million dragonfly records.
