Reuterella helvimacula A small (females – c.1.5-2mm; males – c.2-2.5mm) barkfly. Females are wingless (apterous) while males are long winged (macropterous). Uncommon in Britain and Ireland. Most frequently recorded on tree trunks.

The apterous females have very dark brown heads and brown banded abdomens.

The subgenital plate consists of two touching diamond shapes.

The forewings have a characteristic sinuous wing edge with long straight hairs along the edge in the sinuous area.
