How to edit a research theme

It is not expected that editors will add or delete research themes. Should an administrator do that, they shoud be sure to update the corresponding taxonomy.

Research themes have a regular structure which ensures consistency of content and appearance across different themes.

You need to be logged in and have at least editor permissions to perform this action.

  1. Click on the item to edit in the Key Themes list.
  2. On the page that appears, click the Edit tab.
  3. Enter a paragraph or so of text for Current Activity, Key Outputs and Future Challenges.
  4. Ignore the Timeline for the moment as that is not currently displayed.
  5. There are 3 Highlight boxes. Each should begin with a title sentence with Heading 3 format. Next in almost all cases, comes a centred picture with caption which shows an enlargement when it is clicked. There may be a very brief final paragraph. There are a lot of steps to adding a picture.
    1. Put the cursor where you want the image and click the Image icon in the toolbar - it look like a small lanscape.
    2. In the box that pops up, click the Browse Server button.
    3. In the box that pops up, ensure the folder of the research theme that you are editing, within the pictures folder, is selected.
    4. On the toolbar, click the Upload button, Choose the file that you want to upload, which should be no more than 800x600 pixels, from your local drive, select the Create Page thumbnail checkbox and click the Upload button.
    5. Ensure the page thumbnail of the image you just uploaded is selected and click Insert file from the toolbar.
    6. If still working on the development site, delete /new from the begining of the url to ensure that the image will still appear when the site goes live.
    7. Click the Center Alignment radio button and check the Captioned Image checkbox before clicking OK.
    8. Edit the caption, remembering to credit the source of the image.
    9. Click on the image and then click on the Link button in the toolbar - it looks like a link of chain.
    10. In the box that pops up, click on the Browse Server button.
    11. Click on the full size version of the file you uploaded and then Insert File on the toolbar.
    12. If still working on the development site, delete /new from the begining of the url to ensure that the image will still appear when the site goes live.
    13. Click on the advanced tab and, in the Stylesheet Classes box, type 'colorbox'
    14. Click the OK button.
  6. Theme. It may seem weird to choose the theme from the list when it is already in the title. However, this enables us to join related content together in a reliable way.
  7. Always click the Save button or your work will be lost.
