UK Freshwater Jellyfish Recording Scheme
The UK Freshwater Jellyfish Recording Scheme is designed to collect observations of freshwater jellyfish across the United Kingdom. The most well-known freshwater jellyfish, Craspedacusta sowerbii, was first described in London in 1880, but there have been few reports of this elusive species since. It has a global distribution and is likely to have more widespread distribution in the UK than is currently known. You can help by letting us know when and where you see them:
- When you saw them (date and time) - even if you saw them in previous years!
- Where you saw the freshwater jellyfish (location and/or geographical coordinates).
- How many freshwater jellyfish did you see? (1, <10, 10-100, 100-500, 500-1000, more than 1000)
We’d be very grateful if you could also provide a photograph or a video of your sighting! Records can be added to iRecord or sent direct to the scheme.
If you are comfortable catching freshwater jellyfish, please put a couple in a jar and contact us soon.
