Latest monitoring scheme reports
The UK Pollinator Monitoring Scheme (PoMS) has had a productive year, publishing its Annual Report (covering 2025) which contains a wide range of articles and information, including exciting news of the first set of Official Statistics in Development on pollinating insect trends. This presents trends for pollinating insect groups, based on the PoMS data for Great Britain during the period 2017 to 2024, and showing some worrying declines for some species groups.
The National Plant Monitoring Scheme (NPMS) also published its Annual Report 2025 in June. The report includes interesting data regarding the number of users involved in this huge plant monitoring scheme, number of species recorded in the previous year, total number of squares allocated, etc. Alongside this, Kevin Walker (Head of Science, BSBI) writes about the use of NPMS data to identify species indicator trends, and provides a list of other studies published using this data and other important accomplishments of the scheme in the past year.
